Hello world!
November 1, 2008Recently, I moved to Long Creek, Oregon, with my sweetie, who is teaching at the school here. This blog is primarily for those friends and relatives hungry for news of us as we start a grand new adventure far from the “maddening crowd.” Lest any one be fooled, it is not that people are not maddening here as well at times. It is simply that there are so few people, it’s pretty hard to get mad at them.
Big apologies to everyone for taking a month and half to even get to this point. It took that long to save up the sizable investment to get satellite Internet. In fact, I had asked for an adventure, but really, I forgot Bilbo Baggins’ sad lament, “I guess adventures aren’t all pony rides in May.” So, actually, I was looking for a lark, but, hey, that’s okay. It’s good to know I still have it in me. After all, in the last month, I’ve lived without water and a stove for a good two weeks, then another half month without a working shower; taken a freezing ass cold shower in the girls’ lo
cker room at the school, whacked myself in the face hard enough to crack a cheekbone, cleaned out ten truckloads of garbage from the little house we now live in and applied ten gallons of paint to the interior and almost completed the animals’ shelters. Right now, Butterbrickle, my oldest Pygora doe, is almost halfway through her pregnancy and looking pretty much like at least twins.
The doelings are putting out fleece as fast as they can and the ladies (chickens) went into a molt so fast it looked like chicken explosions in the barnyard. I’m almost unpacked and have crammed about everything I can into 550 square feet of space. It’s wonderful.
Dear Susan,
We love opening the door to trick or treaters. I love to hand out candy and bless every little snowwhite and superman than comes by. Last night my favorite was a almost three year old minnie mouse.
In my opinion the word is official. You are truly super woman! What you have done is… Incredible!!! I am very impressed with the kitchen. Did I give you that door knocker?
Loved the pictures. Ray’s favorite is the shower head. The goats are adorable. Which I could be there for the twins.
I have exciting news. Given the current economics I decided to plant a winter garden. My first. Today my carrots and spinich are up!The carrots a quarter inch and the spinich an inch. My sugar snap peas are six inches and there is a new winter tomato I bought that is growing. There is something so visceral for me watching seeds come up. I planted wildflower seeds along the garage too.
I downloaded your Blue mountain sunset photo. Great screen saver.
I love you,
Janice
PS: Yes, I think of Twink every day.
Hey, cool blog.
Sounding like you’ve the makings of an interesting
book to give folks an idea of life in Eastern Oregon.
Things seem to be going ok here. Brian has moved in.
Too bad Jessie has such a honker of a truck but oh well. Cody and Coltrane have vacated to stay with a
couple of gals. He’s left me with pointers for dealing with the chickens. The black/whites ? are getting good size. Brian might add some. We will put in more nesting boxes. All the chickens are residing in the big coop.
Sounds like yall are settling into a sustainably, sane lifestyle. Look forward to another visit.
I went to the Mt. Pizgah mushroom festival with Gaia’s child. Tried Lion’s Mane, ummm yummy.
Nov 1 we went to the Witches ball at WOW hall. It
reminds me of an old OddFellow lodge. She has deer and turkeys trapse through her yard. Yep, them turkeys are everywhere these days. And Thanksgiving is soon. Hmmm, wild turkey and wild turkey sounds good.
See you soon, Tim
